How to Play Moo Who? — Roles, Match Loop & First Match
The two sides
Every Moo Who? match splits players into two roles:
- Animals — you spawn disguised as one of the farm animals, standing inside a herd of AI-controlled ones. Your job is to be furniture: graze, wander, and when the situation calls for it, make the right animal sound into your microphone. Survive the round and you win.
- Hunters — you patrol the farm with a gun and limited information. Every animal you see might be a bot or a person. Shoot a hidden player and you score; shoot the wrong cow and you pay for it (the Oops! achievement for hitting your first bot exists because everyone does it).
The game is built by SAT Productions and released on Steam on August 21, 2026 — see the release page for price and platform facts.
The match loop
- Join an online lobby. Matches are online multiplayer; the Early Bird achievement pops for your first one. You can queue with friends co-op style.
- Animals pick a spot in the herd. The AI animals move with patterns — your first job is to learn those patterns and copy them.
- Hunters sweep. They walk the pasture, watch movement, and use sound: an animal that moos on cue when prompted is suspicious; one that never moos is suspicious too.
- The mic moment. When you need to sell your disguise, you make the animal sound with your own voice. A convincing moo buys you safety; a nervous laugh gets you shot.
- Round ends when every hidden animal is found or the timer runs out with survivors. Since the August 26 update, a scoreboard tallies your points across the match.
Controls and basics
The controls are standard PC fare — move, crouch, interact, and a talk key for your microphone. Two habits matter more than any keybind:
- Move like a bot. Wander aimlessly, stop to graze, drift with the herd. Beelines and camera-straight paths read as human instantly.
- Deal with flies. Flies land on animals and shooing one away for the first time unlocks Baby Steps — it is also a behavior hunters watch for, because bots and players handle the annoyance differently.
Your first match, honestly
Expect to die. 91.5% of players earn the first achievement (finishing the intro), but only about a third ever win as the last surviving animal. Start as an animal, stay near the middle of the herd, keep your mic muted until you actually need it, and watch one full round as a hunter early — nothing teaches animal mistakes faster than hunting them yourself.
Ready for role-specific strategy? Continue with the animal guide or the hunter guide, and make sure your microphone works before you queue.
